I've been going to SD for 20 years. Been there done it. I went with a group of guys to Jim River Ranch this fall and I can say without any reservation that it was the best trip ever. The owner Jesse and his staff were super. I came as a quest and left as family. Birds, dining and facilities 1st class at a reasonable price . Lord spare, I and my oldish retriever will go back this fall.

Fall 2016 - AK
I, my son and 4 friends from AK hunted Jim River Ranch with Dewey and his 2 golden retrievers. The cover was fantastic and the river bottom scenery was beautiful. The birds were wild or at least acted wild. Dewey and his dogs did a good job finding all our birds. Overall it was a great experience and a value for the money. Hope to come back soon!
Mid 2016 October hun -
I'm back for another continuation of my dreams. After hunting at Jim River Ranch in 2015....there was now reason to look elsewhere. So my friend Randy and I headed back for round 2. There's not much to say other than why would you look any further??? Great bird opportunity, too much food, great guides (thanks Dewey, Maisy and her partner), Patrick Flanigan, extreme shooter for taking us out for an afternoon of hunting and shooting with your new BREDA Italian made shotgun. Don't forget to go to the MAN CAVE for some relaxation, a drink or two and some cowboy shooting action. Thanks Jesse and team for making it an enjoyable hunt. Guaranteed you won't be disappointed. We booked a weekend with The Jim River Ranch for our trap team and could not be more pleased with the experience. From the personal coaching provided by Patrick, the guided hunts by Jesse and the staff to the facilities. What sets them apart is the ability to provide a broad range of activities ranging from guided hunts to cowboy action shooting to personalized firearms coaching from a world class shooter in Patrick Flanigan. Fall 2015 - Utah
Myself, and 3 of my prostaff hunted here in November 2015. I have hunted with several outfitters with our TV Show, and this place made me feel at home, the meals were extraordinary, the staff were all professional. I plan to hunt this place yearly after just spending 2 1/2 days on this ranch.
Fall 2015 - Michigan & Indiana
Had a fabulous hunt with limits of birds. Our hosts Doug, Terry and Travis are a fine group of gentleman that treated us like family! Travis and his dogs were tireless hunters of the finest caliber! The Jim River Ranch is a first class experience in every way! Memories for a lifetime!!!
Jim River Ranch, what surprising discovery! This place is a must do for South Dakota pheasant hunters ( I Hear the duck and geese are as good). Wonderful accommodations in a refurbished farm house with all the amenities. The three meals a day are top quality, come hungry because you will not be after the trip. Top shelf drinks are included. We never left the farm with all the activities onsite. Included in this trip was great guides and dogs. We hunted with two guides and four dogs each of our morning and afternoon hunts. Birds are plentiful, and you will need lots of shells. The quick draw game in the man cave is addicting, and you will go back every afternoon. Overall this is a 5 star experience in South Dakota pheasant hunting.

Jessie, I want to thank you for one of the best outdoor experiences that I have had to date. My stay with you and the crew at JRR is hard to describe in mere words. Your dedication to pheasant habitat and the sport of wing shooting goes beyond what I could have imagined. The accomadations, food and atmosphere at your family homestead is the most welcoming that I have had. Sharon, Terry, Doug, Rob, and Corey are the best and of course those ponters and labs were priceless. Yes we got our limit of roosters each day, but that seems secondary to the overall experience. Keep up the good work; you will be seeing me again.
Opening weekend 2015 - Redfield, SD
I've hunted with various outfitters from New Mexico to Alaska and Jesse Wright at Jim River Ranch was by far the best ever. From the first handshake to the last hug. Thanks to Pat Flanigan who said this was the place to hunt wild birds and have great accommodations. We had the opportunity for Pat to put on an exhibition shooting show on for us all. The guides, dogs, and Terry the chef out did themselves. I've never saw so many birds put up by their dogs. This truly is the "Pheasant Capital of the World". The lodge was wonderful with plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and your own locker to keep your hunting equipment together for the next days hunt. It was just like a Terry Redlin painting of a fall pheasant hunt. After a long day in the field, you came home to the "ManCave" for some relaxation, refreshments and some cowboy action shooting, what a blast! I can't say enough about they way you were treated at the lodge. They all made your feel like you were part of a big country family. A true asset to the world of South Dakota Pheasant Hunting. Thanks Jesse for the dream!!

Thank you for such a great time. We all had so much fun. Were already making plans for next year. I think were all going to bring auto's next time!! The house was amazing, and the hunting was superb. If anyone is planning a Pheasant Hunt in South Dakota, you gotta check out Jim River Ranch just outside of Redfield. This place is awesome! The lodge is breath-taking and the hunting ground is like nothing I have ever seen. Seriously hope to make this a yearly thing. There are birds everywhere.

I have heard about Pheasant hunting in S Dakota, but until You experience it you have no idea. Jim River Ranch is awesome. The hunting ground is unbelievable. Birds everywhere. A pheasant hunt was a “bucket list” item for the Black Hole Boys; our duck hunting club and lifelong friends. Dave is the dreamer of the group so he started the search. He told us that we were going to the pheasant capital of the world, yeah right. He booked a hunt at Jim River Ranch in Redfield SD. We weren’t expecting much, no offense Dave, but he disappointed us before. What we got was the most amazing pheasant hunt we could have ever dreamed of. The postcard farm house of Jim River Ranch was like a homecoming with all of the grace and warmth of a stay at Grandma’s house. The food was fantastic, the guides were consummate hunters and gentlemen, and Jesse your family and friends made our hunt a memory of a lifetime. We hope to turn our “one time” hunt in to an annual pilgrimage. Jim River can’t be explained it has to be experienced. Take it from the hard to please Texas Boys, this is world class hunting. If you are planning a South Dakota pheasant hunt this fall, Jim River Ranch is the place to book your trip. This place is amazing. The lodge is breath-taking and the hunting ground is like nothing I have ever seen before. Our guide, Doug Wright, took us out to show us where we would be hunting the next morning and we had a rooster playing "chicken" with the side my side ATV. PRICELESS. Also, while we drank our morning coffee, anxiously waiting for 10 am, we watched partridge feeding right out of the driveway at the lodge. How many places are you gonna see that? Two Thumbs Up
Repeat business is probably the best indicator of how we feel about Jim River Ranch. We already reserved our hunt for next year and we gladly paid our deposits to secure a spot in the Pheasant Capital of the World next year. Jesse Wright is one of the best hunting lodge guides and operators I have ever met. Jesse makes everyone feel... good about the hunt, tends to each individuals preferences and genuinely wants each person to have the time they wanted out of the hunt. He accomodates those that want to hunt hard and those that might need to be accomodated. He gave each of us the pleasure and experience we were seeking in our hunting even though we had a large group of 10 people.
We have hunted all over the world with lots of great guides and operators but Jesse does everything in a first class way. He offers several beautiful properties with lots of game. He has great guides and assistants with skilled and obedient dogs. He provides great transportation to cover lots of ground with plenty of help in the field, and great food before, during and after the hunt.
Jesse is a tremendous guide and provides wonderful hospitality. Jesse is a very successful businessman but really seems to have a calling for serving others in this wonderful setting. He has a beautiful lodge that is clean and very well maintained. Jesse makes friends of his guests and he works hard to make his guests happy.
